Months, Sivan

Both Hebrew months "Nissan" and "Sivan" have within them the Hebrew letter samech. The word "Sinai" also contains the Hebrew letter samech and the letter nun as does the word "Nissan". Thus the months Nissan and Sivan are interconnected and also connected to Mt. Sinai because of their mutual letters.According to the "Sefer Yetzira", the book of Formation compiled by Abraham the Patriarch, every month is connected to a different part of the body, to a different letter of the Hebrew language, a different tribe, and a different permutation of G-d's name. The month of Nissan is connected to the right leg, while the month of Sivan is connected to the left leg. During these months, from Nissan to Sivan, the nation was "walking" to Mt. Sinai to receive the Torah. Thus we see the interconnection between the two months and the two legs.

Nissan is connected to the letter hei, while Sivan is connected to the letter zion which, together, form the word zeh ["this"]. In the Torah the word zeh is mentioned in the passage on Rosh Chodesh [new moon] of Nissan [Exodus 12:2]: "This month--ha zeh-- shall be for you the beginning of the months, it shall be for you the first of the months of the year". We understand from this word in the passage the interconnection between the months. We left Egypt and celebrated Passover in the month of Nissan so we would be able to receive the Torah at Mt.Sinai in the month of Sivan. Only in this encampment [during the month of Sivan at Mt. Sinai] was Israel in a situation of "k'ish echad belev echad" [together like one man with one heart]. This had never happened before and has never happened since.

This means that Rosh Chodesh [new moon] in Sivan is a day of "k'ish ehad belev ehad" [unity]. In the portion of Torah called Yitro, Exodus 19:2, it says: "They journeyed from Rephidim and arrived in the wilderness of Sinai and encamped [vayachnu-plural form] in the wilderness; and Israel encamped [vayachan-singular form] there, opposite the mountian". We are speaking about the unity of the nation Israel in the encampment. This is the only encampment where am Israel [the nation] was one in unity [hinted in the passage by the plural form turned singular].

The portion in the Torah read on Shavuot [Festival of the Weeks] is taken from Parashat Bamidbar [the portion in the Book of Numbers which mentions the encampment in the desert and all the machanot--camps]. This is to show that the tool for receiving the Torah is achdut [unity]. If we don't have the achdut [unity] and the hitkalelut [interrelationships necessary], there is no way that the Holy One, blessed be He, will bring down the Shechinah/Divine Inspiration. The reason for this is that, at the deepest level, all the souls of am Israel are one. Am Israel is like a whole person, in which some people are the "toes", and some people are the "feet", some people are the "legs", according to different sefirot, some people are the "liver", some are the "heart", some are the "brains", some people are the "eyes".

Every person is connected to a group of souls in their area, but they are still part of the whole complex called koma shleima [the whole level] of what we call "Adam", which is all of am Israel together.
