Rebbe Nachman disguised very high and hidden concepts from Kabbalistic works and incorporated them in his stories. The Rebbe said that in ancient times people would speak in this manner making use of stories and parables. In some of his stories the Rebbe would reveal some hints to the mysteries mentioned in them. The connection of the stories to the psychological makeup of every Jew and every human being are relevant today. These stories are strong motivators for returning to G-d. These commentaries and classes on this website have been given by Atarah C. Gur between the years 1992-2005. They are about the 13 tales of Rebbe Nachman and his other short stories. Let's look at some Inner precepts that are revealed in these stories: 1-The Lost Princess deals with the concept of the exile of the Shechinah from the Land of Israel because of the sin of Adam, Noach and the Jewish people in the 1st and 2nd Temple Periods. It speaks about how the righteous [viceroy] find the Shechina, pick her up from her fallen state, and bring her back to her former glory. 2-The King and the Emperor speaks about the two upper sefirot and the interaction between each other. The emperor is the sefirot of Chockmah/knowledge, while the King represents the sefirah of Binah/understanding. 3-The Cripple speaks about the Messiah and His inability in this moment to overcome the forces of evil which is why he is "crippled" and has no legs/revelation in our world. 4-The Bull and the Ram speaks about the 4 superpowers which ruled over Israel. 5-The Prince of Gems involves discussion of Moshe who was hidden under Egyptian clothing and then was revealed as a prince of Gems. 6-The Humble King speaks of the malchut of Israel in Zion. The king which has the portraits of all other kings is Zion which is the city that includes all cities. The wise adviser in the story in the sphere of knowledge. 7-The Spider and the Fly speaks about the evil inclination, sickness,
and overcoming evil forces. The spider is Amalek. 8-The Rabbi's Son deals with the Rabbi and his main student. Moshe and Joshua, Arizal and Rav Chaim Vital, the Baal Shem Tov and the Or HaChaim, Rebbe Nachman and Rabbi Natan. 9-The Sophisticate and the Simpleton speaks about Jewish knowledge and good personality traits versus non-Jewish knowledge and bad personality traits. 10-The Burgher and the Pauper deals about Abraham and Lot, the Messiah and his connection to the Jewish people, the connection between am Israel and the nations. 11-The Exchanged Children reveals that the Jewish glory and the Jewish people have been exchanged with a servant-like existence in Exile while the non-Jewish nations have received the power and glory and now act as if they are the kings son. 12-The Master of Prayer speaks about the tzaddik and how, through prayer, fallen souls are saved--mainly souls that fell under the lure of money. He speaks about the kingdom of wealth and that the entire order of social rank was determined by the amount of money that each person had. 13-The Seven Beggers speaks about the 7 facets of Messiah and how they were personified by 7 tzaddikim. Each begger receives a day while the 7th day is missing, yet to be written in the future with the coming Messiah. Rebbe Nachman's short stories, seen below, are also discussed in length by Atarah Gur in her classes. 1-The Chandelier 2-The Melancholy Saint 3-Two Palaces 4-The Turkey Prince 5-The Bird 6-The Horse and the Pump Atarah Gur's class discussions are based on commentaries of the students of Rabbi Nachman and Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan's commentary on the stories.
